Exchange of New Year’s Greetings Reception hosted by the Mayor of Montreal (January 21, 2026)

On January 21, Consul General Uchikawa attended the Exchange of New Year’s Greetings Reception hosted by the Mayor of Montreal, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, at City Hall. During his meeting with the Mayor, he expressed his gratitude to the City of Montreal for organizing every year in August the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony. He noted that the Montreal-Hiroshima sister-city relationship would mark its 30th anniversary in 2028, a year that would also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Canada. He also mentioned the vitality of initiatives promoting Japanese culture at the Japanese Pavilion and Garden of the Montreal Botanical Garden.
