Consul General Uchikawa's Official Visit to Nova Scotia (July 9 and 10, 2024)

On July 9 and 10, Ambassador Yamanouchi and Consul General Uchikawa conducted an official visit to Nova Scotia. They paid a courtesy call on Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor Arthur LeBlanc and his wife, engaging in a productive exchange of views on Japan-Nova Scotia relations. Lieutenant Governor LeBlanc expressed significant interest in Japan.

A courtesy call on Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston followed, where they had a lively discussion on Japan-Nova Scotia relations, including economic and cultural exchanges, as well as shared challenges such as climate change.

Ambassador Yamanouchi and Consul General Uchikawa also met with Members of the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Speakers Nolan Young, Lisa Lachance, and Danielle Barkhouse. Together, they engaged in fruitful discussions on Japan-Nova Scotia relations.

They paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Kim Masland, Minister of Public Works, agreeing to collaborate on strengthening Japan-Nova Scotia relations.

Subsequently, they met with the Honourable Susan Corkum-Greek, Minister of Economic Development, exchanging views on the economic relationship between Japan and Nova Scotia and addressing the challenges Nova Scotia faces.

Finally, they paid a courtesy call on His Worship Mike Savage, Mayor of Halifax, and exchanged views on the relationship between Japan and Halifax, including exchanges with Hakodate, which has been Halifax’s sister city for 42 years.
