On July 4, Omagari fireworks illuminated the Montreal night sky! Omagari, which is part of Daisen City in Akita Prefecture, is renowned for its spectacular fireworks. Representing Japan at the International des Feux Loto-Québec, Montreal’s prestigious fireworks competition, its show featured a dazzling array of changing colors and shapes and captivated the audience, who responded with gasps of amazement and concluded the event with a standing ovation.

Daisen Mayor Hiroyuki Oimatsu, along with other city officials, visited Montreal on this occasion and met with Consul General Uchikawa. Mr. Oimatsu and his team highlighted the many attractions of Daisen City, including the famous Omagari fireworks, which can be enjoyed in spring, summer, and autumn, as well as its historical sites and rich culinary culture. Additionally, Daisen is home to the unique Hanabi Tradition and Culture Preservation Museum, dedicated to the art of fireworks.

We eagerly await the announcement of the fireworks competition’s results on August 1st!
