On November 4, Consul General Uchikawa participated in a mochi-making event, or “mochi tsuki”, held by the Japanese-Canadian Cultural Centre of Montreal (JCCCM). Mochi Tsuki is a significant annual seasonal tradition of the JCCCM, made possible through the assistance of numerous dedicated volunteers. On the day of the event, Japanese community members and diverse participants gathered together and worked in unison to meticulously craft over 1000 lbs of rice cakes, or "mochi". In the Centre’s tea room, freshly prepared mochi was served in various forms, including in udon soup, wrapped in nori, covered in red bean paste (anko), or sprinkled with soybean flour (kinako).
