Otakuthon (August 11 to 13, 2023)
From August 11 to 13, the Japanese pop culture convention Otakuthon was held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal and was teeming with visitors throughout its duration. The Consulate General of Japan held a Japanese folk song and dance activity presented by Komachi Montreal, tea ceremony workshops organized by the Montreal Association Chado Urasenke Tankokai, demonstrations of Japanese calligraphy offered by Ms. Mikiko Tosen Simard, as well as an information booth. In addition, Deputy Consul General Morimoto presented the "Consulate General's Award" to a contestant of the Masquerade cosplay competition showcasing an impressive attire. Those who developed an initial interest for Japan through to the realm of anime and manga were also able to discover a more traditional facet of Japanese culture during this event.
