Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony at the Montreal Botanical Garden (August 5, 2023)

On the evening of August 5, Consul General Saito attended the Hiroshima Memorial Peace Ceremony held at the Japanese Garden of the Montreal Botanical Garden. During the ceremony, Consul General Saito and Ms. Martine Musau Muele, Montreal City Council Chair, rang together the “Peace Bell”, coinciding with the moment the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on the morning of August 6, 1945 (Japan Time), 78 years ago. A minute of silence followed. A large number of people participated in the event, including federal government dignitaries, members of the consular corps, business representatives, as well as Hiroshima high school student group. In addition, a message from the Mayor of Hiroshima City, Mr. Kazumi Matsui, was read in Japanese, English, and French. Along with renewing its wish for a world without nuclear weapons, the Consulate General of Japan once again expresses its deepest condolences to the victims of this tragedy.
