Official visit of Consul General Saito to Québec City (December 7 and 8, 2022)
Meeting with the President of the National Assembly of Quebec, Ms. Nathalie Roy
On Thursday, December 8, Consul General Jun Saito, during his official visit to Québec City, met with the President of the National Assembly of Quebec, Ms. Nathalie Roy, whose tenure began November 29, 2022. Together, they exchanged ideas and opinions about strengthening the bilateral exchanges and friendship between the Kyoto Prefectural Assembly and the National Assembly of Quebec. To honor the Consul General’s official visit, the National Assembly hoisted the Japanese flag!
Meeting with National Assembly of Quebec Members
During his official visit to Québec City, Consul General Saito met with National Assembly of Quebec Members François St-Louis, Mario Asselin, and Joël Arseneau on December 7, and Michelle Setlakwe on December 8. With Mr. St-Louis representing Joliette where sits Bridgestone’s factory and Mr. Asselin Vanier-Les Rivières where Medicago is located, the Consul General made use of the opportunity to exchange ideas and thoughts on the strengthening of the collaboration between Japanese enterprises and the Province of Quebec. He discussed Japan-Quebec people-to-people exchanges with Mr. Arseneau, sole former JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme participant within the Assembly, whereas the conversation with Ms. Setlakwe during the courtesy visit touched upon Japan-Quebec economic relations, particularly in relation to Montreal.
Meeting with the ministers
On Thursday, December 8, Consul General Saito continued his official visit to Québec City and paid courtesy visits to the Minister Responsible for Relations with the First Nations and the Inuit, Ian Lafrenière, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, André Lamontagne, the Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, Martine Biron, and the Minister of the French Language, Jean-François Roberge. It constituted an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and opinions with each of them on the strengthening of Japan-Quebec relations in their respective spheres of competence.
