2022 Azrieli Music Prizes Gala Concert (October 20, 2022)

On Thursday, October 20, Consul General Saito attended the 2022 Azrieli Music Prizes Gala Concert. Ms. Rita Ueda, a Japanese-born Vancouver resident, won the Commission for Canadian Music. In addition, the musician of Japanese descent Naoko Sato came from Amsterdam to join the performance on stage and play the shô, a wind instrument. The piece, titled "Birds Calling... from the Canada in You" and presented as a world premiere, was created especially to harmonize with the structure of the Maison symphonique, according to Ms. Ueda. At the end of the concert, the Consul General left the room moved by the dynamics and the astonishing creativity of the piece.
