Foreign Minister’s Commendation (October 18, 2022)

On Tuesday, October 18, the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation conferment ceremony for the 2021 fiscal year was held at the Consul General's Residence, honoring the Japanese drum group Arashi Daiko. Since its founding in 1983, Arashi Daiko has presented countless traditional taiko drum performances, mainly in eastern Canada, contributing to the spread and promotion of traditional Japanese culture. In addition, the group also has contributed to the flourishing of the local Japanese communities by engaging in activities held at the Japanese-Canadian Cultural Centre of Montreal. Through its outstanding representation of Japanese culture, Arashi Daiko has fostered mutual ties of understanding and friendship between Japan and Canada. The Consulate General of Japan in Montreal applauds the remarkable achievements of Arashi Daiko and offers the group members, active and former, its warmest congratulations.
