Official visit of Consul General Saito to Nova Scotia (October 11 to 13, 2022)
Meeting with Lieutenant Governor Arthur J. Leblanc and Premier Timothy Jerome Houston


On Tuesday, October 11, Consul General Jun Saito, on an official visit to Nova Scotia, paid a courtesy visit to Lieutenant Governor Arthur J. Leblanc, and exchanged ideas and opinions on strengthening the cooperation between Japan and Nova Scotia. The promotion of local marine products exports to Japan was among the discussed topics.
Also, on Thursday, October 13, Consul General Jun Saito, had the opportunity to meet with Premier Timothy Jerome Houston. Together, they discussed ways to reinforce economic ties between Japan and Nova Scotia.
Meeting with the ministers


On October 13, Consul General Jun Saito, pursuing his official visit to Nova Scotia, had the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mr. Steve Craig and the Minister of Economic Development, Ms. Susan Corkum-Greek, respectively. They discussed ways to reinforce economic ties between Japan and Nova Scotia.
Meeting with Halifax Mayor

On Wednesday, October 12, Consul General Jun Saito paid a courtesy call to Halifax Mayor Mike Savage during his official visit to Nova Scotia. This year, Halifax celebrates the 40th anniversary of its twinning to Hakodate City, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan. The Consul General hopes for the continued development of friendship and bilateral relations between the two sister cities in the future.
University visits


On Wednesday, October 12, during an official visit to Nova Scotia, Consul General Saito visited Saint Mary's University and met its President, Dr. Robert Summerby-Murray. The university has about 70 Japanese undergraduate students, and many Japanese exchange students attend the Language Center to study assiduously. The Consul General offers his support to help strengthen the relationship between Saint Mary's University and Japan.
Also, on Thursday, October 13, Consul General Saito visited Dalhousie University, where he engaged in discussion with representatives from its International Centre. The school not only maintains collaboration agreements with Japanese universities, it also participates in joint research projects.

Visit to the Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Center

During his official visit to Nova Scotia, Consul General Saito made multiple stops, including a visit to the Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Center on Thursday, October 13. The Consul General learned about the history of the Mi’kmaq as well as their activities today. The Mi’kmaq, indigenous people of Nova Scotia, currently have 13 communities living in the province.
