Meeting with Mr. Eric Girard, Minister of Finance (June 13, 2022)
On Monday, June 13, Consul General Jun SAITO exchanged ideas and opinions with Minister of Finance Eric Girard, and both agreed to work towards further strengthening Japan-Quebec economic relations. They discussed the expected revitalization of travels between Japan and Quebec now that Air Canada has resumed its Montreal-Narita direct flight. Among the other various topics broached was the adoption by the National Assembly of Québec of Bill 96 on the use of the French language in the province. While he recognizes the importance of the existence and the respect of Quebec laws regarding French, the Consul General considers that it would also be important for the sustained development of Japan-Quebec relations that locally-based Japanese enterprises be able to continue using English as well.
