Conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun onto Ms. Suzanne Ethier (April 29, 2021)
On April 29, 2021, the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the 2021 Spring Conferment of Decorations onto Foreign Nationals.
The Consulate General of Japan in Montreal is pleased to announce that former Delegate General of Québec in Tokyo Suzanne Ethier was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for her contribution to promoting interregional exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and Canada.
The Order of the Rising Sun, established in 1875, is Japan’s oldest awards system. Its different classes of decoration are awarded to individuals, both Japanese and non-Japanese nationals, in recognition of their distinguished accomplishments.
During the three years Ms. Ethier worked as Delegate General of Québec in Tokyo, from 2007 to 2010, she received a large number of delegations from Quebec, including representatives of the Government of Quebec, economic missions, and academic and cultural organizations, thus contributing greatly to the development of Japan-Quebec exchanges and cooperation in various fields. In addition, throughout her career, she also acted as Asia-Pacific Director for the Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade of Québec, member of the Quebec-Japan Business Forum Board of Directors, and Director for International Relations of the Mosaïcultures internationales de Montréal, among others.
Through her continued efforts, Ms. Ethier played a key role in fostering deeper mutual understanding and stronger ties between Japan and Quebec.
