On April 29, 2021, the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the 2021 Spring Conferment of Decorations.

The Consulate General of Japan in Montreal is pleased to announce that Ms. Kazuko D’Orangeville, former President of the Montreal Section of Ikebana International, was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for her contribution to the promotion of Japanese culture.

The Order of the Rising Sun, established in 1875, is Japan’s oldest awards system. Its different classes of decoration are awarded to individuals, both Japanese and non-Japanese nationals, in recognition of their distinguished accomplishments.

Ms. D’Orangeville has organized, throughout her long years as a part of the executive committee and administration of the Montreal Chapter of Ikebana International, countless ikebana classes, workshops, exhibitions, and events, and through those, contributed to the promotion and popularization of the art of ikebana in Quebec. Additionally, due to her devotion and determination to pass down her vast knowledge to successors, she will also undeniably have greatly contributed to the future development of the world of ikebana in Quebec.
