The 17th edition of the Japanese summer festival “Matsuri Japon” was celebrated on August 11 at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre of Montreal. To launch the event, Acting Consul General Yuji Kubo, Montreal City Councillor Mary Deros and Matsuri Japon President Jennifer Sakai addressed the crowd with warm words of welcome.

While various traditional artistic performances, such as rhythmic “taiko” drumming, “bon odori” and “soran bushi” dances, and “omikoshi” parades, were given, the Consulate General of Japan in Montreal held an information kiosk on Japanese culture, tourism, the JET Programme, and the MEXT Scholarships, and also offered the opportunity for participants to wear a yukata for the duration of their visit.

Blessed with beautiful weather, more than 18 000 visitors came to enjoy the lively atmosphere of traditional Japanese summer festivals.
