Participation of the Consulate in Otakuthon (August 4 to 6, 2017)

The annual convention “Otakuthon”, hosting many events related to Japanese pop culture such as anime, manga and video games, was held in Montreal from August 4th to 6th. The Consulate General of Japan organized Japanese flower arrangement (ikebana), tea ceremony, traditional dances and “Go” workshops as well as screenings of the Japanese film “Brave Story”. The Japan National Tourism Office (JNTO) also held an information booth and conferences on Japan tourism during the convention.
More than 20 000 visitors, among many came dressed as Japanese anime/manga characters, crowded the venue for this year’s rendition of the second largest anime convention in Canada. The amateur costuming competition “Masquerade” allowed a dedicated participant to win the “Consul General’s Award” for their performance and cosplaying skills.
