Donations for the Relief of the Victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake
Following the recent Tohoku - Pacific Ocean Earthquake, the Consulate General of Japan in Montreal would like to express our profound gratitude for the many offers of assistance from various sectors that we have been receiving.
Please find below information on donations for the Relief of the Victims of the Japan Earthquake.
1. Donations to the Japanese Red Cross Society through the Consulate General of Japan in Montreal
* In order to facilitate the transfer of donations to the Japanese Red Cross Society, the Consulate General of Japan in Montreal has opened an account exclusive on this purpose.
* Donations must be made by cash or cheque in Canadian funds. These will then be sent to the Japanese Red Cross Society. (Donations of goods cannot be accepted.)
* Please note that the Consulate General of Japan is not able to issue receipts for tax credit purposes. However, if necessary, we can issue a “Letter of receipt of donations”, which indicates the date and the amount of donation received, and states that the donations will be sent to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Option 1: Donations by cash or cheque brought in person to the Consulate General of Japan in Montreal
- Cheques must be made payable to « Consulat Général du Japon »
- Opening Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on our opening days

*Please fill out a donation form and submit it at the reception.
Option 2: Cheques sent by post to the Consulate General of Japan in Montreal
Please send cheque with an enclosed note indicating your name, address, telephone number and the name of your institution/organization and its description as such; governmental institution, international institution, private sector, personal. If you wish to receive a “Letter of receipt of donations”, please clearly indicate so and provide your email address. You will receive the letter by email at a later date.

2. Direct Donations to the Japanese Red Cross Society or the Canadian Red Cross Society
*According to the Canadian Federal government and the provincial governments under our jurisdiction, please note that the Japanese Red Cross Society is a non-Canadian organization; therefore, they cannot issue official donation receipts that qualify for tax credits in Canada.

*Relief donations will be remitted by the Japanese Red Cross Society to each affected municipality, which then pays it directly to the victims.
*If you require a receipt, please indicate so in your payment slip. Please note, however, that those receipts are not for tax credit purposes under Canadian tax laws.
